Kali carbonicum.

Mind and Disposition.

Angry and irritable.
Anxiety with fear.
Becomes easily startled ; great tendency to start when touched.
Vexed and irritated mood ; trifles vex one ; noise is
disagreeable.
[5] Dread of labor.

Head.

Sudden attack of unconsciousness.
Giddiness, as if proceeding from the stomach.
Dulness of the head ; confused, stupid feeling, as after
intoxication.
Vertigo when rapidly turning the head or body.
[10] Vertigo, mostly in the evening and
morning.
Congestions of blood to the head, with throbbing and humming in it.
One-sided headache, with nausea.
Stitches in the temples and forehead ; worse from stooping and
moving the head, eyes and the lower jaw ; ameliorated when raising
the head and from heat.
Pressing pain : in the back part of the head.

[15] Headache from riding in a
carriage ; from coughing and sneezing.
Pressure over the eyes, with violent pain in the whole fore, head.
Liability of the head to take cold, especially when exposed to a draught
after being heated (from it headache or toothache).
Painful tumors on the scalp, like beginning blood-boils ; more
painful from pressure and motion, and less so from external heat ;
accompanied by itching, as if in the bones of the head, with great
dryness of the hair.
Falling off of the hair, especially on the temples, of the eye brows and
the beard, with great dryness of the hair, with violent burning-itching
of the scalp in the morning and evening ; the scalp oozes if
scratched.

Eyes.

[20] Stitches in the eyes.
Pimples in the eyebrows.
The white of the eye is ; red ; the capillaries ; are
injected.
Swelling of the eyelids and agglutination of the eyes early in the
morning.
The corners of the eyes ulcerate.
[25] Sensation of coldness of the
eyelids.
Swelling (like a bag) between the upper eyelids and eyebrows.
Inclination to stare.
While reading or looking in the bright light moving spots, gauze and
points before the eyes.
Bright sparks, blue or green spots before the eyes.

[30] Painful sensitiveness of the eyes
to the light of day.

Ears.

Stitches ; out of the ears (from within to without).
Inflammation and ; suppuration of the ear.
Itching and tickling in the ears.
Redness ; heat and violent itching of the external ear.
[35] Cracking in the ears.
Discharge of a yellow, liquid cerumen or pus from the ear.
Inflammation and hard swelling of the parotid gland.
Dulness of hearing.
Singing, whizzing and roaring in the ears.

Nose.

[40] Redness and swelling of the nose,
with internal soreness.
Burning in the nose.
Sore, scurfy nostrils.
Ulcerated nostrils.
Bloody, red nostrils (every morning).
[45] Dull smell.
Obstruction of the nose.
Fluent coryza, with excessive sneezing ; pain in the back and
headache.

Face.

Face bloated.
Yellow color of the face.
[50] Swelling and redness of the
cheeks.
Swelled, ulcerated lips.
Swelling and rhagades of the upper lip ; it bleeds readily.
Chapped lips, peeling off.
Freckles.

Mouth and Throat.

[55] Toothache, only when eating
(throbbing in all the teeth) ; the teeth are painful when touched
by either cold or warm substances.
Stitches in the teeth, with swelling of the cheeks (with stinging pain).
Looseness of all the teeth.
Bad smell from the teeth.
Tearing, lancinating toothache, with pain in the facial bones.
[60] Sensation of dryness in the mouth,
with increased secretion of saliva.
Painful vesicles all over the inner mouth, with burning pain.
Burning of the tip of the tongue, as if raw or full of vesicles.
Swelling of the tongue covered with small painful vesicles.
Painful pimple on the tip of the tongue.

[65] Bitter taste in the mouth.
Soreness of the frænum linguæ.
Stinging pain in the throat when swallowing.
Difficult ; deglutition ; the food descends very slowly in the
œsophagus, and small particles of food easily get into the windpipe.
Tenacious mucus in the posterior part of the pharynx (early in the
morning) ; difficult to hawk up or to swallow, with the sensation
as ; if a lump of mucus were in the throat. -Hawking of mucus.

[70] Dryness in the posterior part of
the throat.

Stomach and Abdomen.

Great desire for acids or sugar.
Aversion to rye bread.
Milk and warm food disagree.
Sleepiness during a meal.
[75] Distention of the abdomen after a
meal.
Sour eructations (after a meal).
Nausea from mental emotions.
Nausea, as if he would faint ; also with anxiety.
Retching for several evenings.

[80] Sour vomiting, or of food.
Tension across the abdomen.
Colic renewed after each meal.
Stitches in the pit of the stomach and hypochondria, preventing
breathing.
Hard, distended abdomen, with painfulness of the umbilical region to the
touch.

[85] Cutting and drawing in the
abdomen, resembling false labor-pains.
Inactivity and coldness in the abdomen.
Stitches in the right side of the abdomen (liver).
Heaviness in the abdomen.
Labor-like colic, with pain in the back.

[90] Ascites.
Stitches and painful bloatedness in the groins.
Excessive emission of flatulence.
Incarceration of flatulence, with colic.

Stool and Anus.

Constipation, with difficulty of emission of too large-sized faces.
[95] Retarded stool from inactivity of
the rectum.
Stool resembling sheep’s dung.
White mucus before and during stool.
Painless diarrhœa, with rumbling in the abdomen.
Diarrhœa, with smarting pain at the anus.

[100] Discharge of blood with the
stool.
Continual burning at the anus after stool.
Itching and tingling of the anus.
Ulcerated pimples ; at the anus.
Protrusion and distention of the varices during stool, with pricking and
burning.

[105] Protrusion of the varices ;
during micturition, emitting first blood, afterwards white mucus.
Inflammation, soreness, stitches, and tingling, as from ascarides in the
varices.

Urinary Organs.

Frequent micturition, with discharge of small quantities of fiery urine.
Burning in the urethra during and after micturition.
The urine is discharged slowly.
[110] After micturition discharge of
prostatic fluid.

Sexual Organs.


Men. Sexual desire excessive or
deficient.
Swelling of the testes and the spermatic cord.
Copious painful pollutions, with subsequent painful erections.
Pollutions with voluptuous dreams.
[115] Women.
Difficult first menstruation.
Menstruation suppressed ; too early or too scanty.
Suppression of menses, with anasarca and ascites.
The menstrual blood is acrid ; makes the thighs ; sore and
covers them with an eruption.
During the menses (morning) headache ; cutting pain in the
abdomen ; pain in the small of the back, like a weight ;
stitches in the ears ; coryza ; itching of the whole body.

[120] During pregnancy discharge of
blood (clots of coagulated blood).
Labor-pains (false) ; violent pains in the small of the back,
extending to the uterus.
Yellowish leucorrhœa (burning), with pain in the small of the back ;
labor-like pain ; and itching and burning in the pudendum.
Tearing stitches in the milk-breasts.

Respiratory Organs.

Difficult wheezing breathing.
[125] Spasmodic asthma (in the
morning) ; relieved by sitting up and bending forward, resting the
head on the knees.
Roughness of the throat.
Complete hoarseness (aphonia), with violent sneezing.
Spasmodic cough, in short but frequently returning attacks, caused by a
tickling in the throat and larynx ; during the morning and day the
cough is loose, but the yellow pus and tough mucus has to be swallowed
again.
Night cough ; worse from 3 to 4 A.M.

[130] Cough with sourish expectoration,
or of blood-streaked mucus, or of pus.
Spasmodic cough, with retching and vomiting.
During cough, rough pain in the larynx ; stinging in the
throat ; stitches in the right side of the chest (lower
part) ; sparks dart from the eyes ; wheezing in the
chest ; asthma.
The cough is worst after midnight (3 to 4 A.M.) ; from
motion ; when sitting erect ; from cold ; after eating
warm food, milk, bread) ; fasting (better after breakfast) ;
while lying on the side.
Hooping-cough (with inflammation of the lungs ; with swelling
between the upper eyelid and the eyebrows), and worse from 3 to 4 A.M.

[135] Arrest of breathing awakes him at
night.
Pain in the chest, especially when talking.
Stitches in the sternum and right side of the chest through to the back,
when taking an inspiration.
Tearing in the sides of the chest.
Inflammation of the lungs (and liver), with stitches in the chest (right
side).

[140] Suppuration of the lungs ;
abscesses of the lungs.
Weakness and faintness in the chest from walking fast.
Palpitation of the heart in the morning (when hungry).
Frequent intermissions of the beats of the heart.
Burning in the region of the heart.

[145] Crampy pain in the region of the
heart.
Hydrothorax.

Back.

Stiffness between the shoulder-blades.
Pain in the small of the back, with labor-like pains in the abdomen.
Pain in the small of the back after a fall.
[150] Stiffness of the back ;
unable to stoop.
Stitches in the region of both kidneys.
Gnawing pain in the os coccygis.
Pain in the small of the back ; worse after standing or walking.
Pain (during pregnancy) in the small of the back, drawing up to the
middle of the back.

[155] Stiffness of the nape of the
neck, with elongation of the uvula (in the morning when in bed).
Congestion of blood to the neck ; the neck appears larger and the
neck-cloth too tight.
Hard swelling of the submaxillary gland.
Swelling of the cervical glands.
Tickling in the glandular swelling of the neck ; relieved by
pressing on the part with the cold hand.

Extremities.

[160] Upper.
The arms feel numb in the cold and after violent exercise.
Swelling and sore pain of the axillary glands.
Perspiration in the axilla.
Cracking in the shoulder-joint, when moving or raising the arm.
Pain, as from blows and bruises, under the right shoulder-joint,
especially when moving and touching it.
[165] Weakness and want of strength in
the arms (in the morning).
Cold hands.
The hands tremble (in the morning) when writing.
Itching of the palms of the hands ; itching vesicles in the palms
of the hands.
The tips of the fingers go to sleep (early in the morning).

[170] Lower.
Nightly rheumatic pains in the legs.
Burning and stinging in the legs.
Restlessness of the legs in the evening.
The lower limbs frequently go to sleep ; the feet go to sleep after
a meal.
Itching of the tibia.

[175] Heaviness and stiffness of the
feet.
Profuse fetid sweat of the feet.
Cold feet in bed.
Swelling of the feet up to the ankles.
Swelling and redness of the soles of the feet.

[180] Inflamed, red chilblains on the
toes (ball of the big toe).
Stitches in the painful and sensitive corns.
Sensation as if nail of the big toe would grow into the flesh.

Generalities.

Stinging pains, in the muscles, joints and inner parts.
Rheumatic pains with swelling ; more when at rest.
[185] Twitching of the muscles.
A short walk fatigues much.
Dropsical affections and paralysis of old persons.

Sleep.

Great drowsiness in the day-time and early in the evening.
Starting when asleep.
[190] Gnashing of the teeth at night
while asleep.
Arrest of breath rouses him from sleep at night.
At night the left leg and the right arm go to sleep.
Sleep disturbed by horrid dreams.

Fever.

Pulse very variable ; frequently more rapid in the morning than in
the evening ; strong pulsations in the arteries.
[195] Chilliness generally in the
morning.
Frequent shudderings during the day.
The chilliness in the evening is relieved near the warm stove and after
lying down.
Chill very frequently after the pains.
Heat in the morning hours in bed.

[200] Internal heat with external
chilliness.
Perspiration every night.
Morning perspiration.
Perspiration easily excited during the day by exercise and exertion.
Perspiration more on the upper part of the body and increased by warm
drinks.

[205] Perspiration is fetid or smells
sour.
Entire want of perspiration and inability to perspire.
Intermittent fever ; constant
chilliness, with violent thirst from internal heat ; hot
hands ; loathing of food.
Long yawning, with heat ; pain in the chest and head ;
pulsations in the abdomen, 9 A.M. and 5 P.M.
Chills and heat alternate in the evening, followed by perspiration
during the night.
[210] Evening fever ; first,
chilliness with thirst (for one hour), then heat without thirst,
accompanied by violent, fluent coryza ; afterwards slight
perspiration with sound sleep.
Chill and fever, with oppression of breathing, constriction of the
chest, pain in the region of the liver ; most of the thirst during
the chill.
Intermittent fevers, with
hooping-cough.

Skin.

Burning and stinging-itching on the skin.
Dryness of the skin ; deficient perspiration.
[215] Painful skin, as from
subcutaneous ulceration, when pressing on it.
Yellow, scaly, violent itching spots ; over the abdomen and around
the nipples.
Burning-itching herpes, -when scratching them they become moist.
Ulcers bleeding (at night).
Fissure in the cicatrix of an old issue.

[220] Warts ; itching.
Ascites and anasarca.
Chilblains ; purple-red.
Swelling and indurations of the glands, after contusions.

Conditions.

The ailments are worse in the morning (2 and 3 A.M.) and when at rest,
than during the day and while exercising.
[225] He feels better in the open air
than in the room, but the fever in worse in the open air.
After taking a walk, faint-like weakness and trembling.
Great liability to catch cold after being heated and aversion to the
open and cold air and draughts.
Aggravation from cold air ; from
becoming cold ; when lying on the side.

Amelioration from eructations, on
getting warm ; in the warm air.
